Financial assistance

Most parents will be eligible for some type of funding. Please apply early.

  1. Early Years Education Funding: We accept this Government funding which is available for all children beginning the term after their third birthday. This funding is available for a maximum of 15 hours a week, for 38 weeks a year, during school term times only, although the rules are changing in 2012 to create more flexible provision. EYEF hours are free and their value will be deducted from your invoice. We will claim this entitlement for you.The money is paid direct to the Family Centre.
NB: DCC only allows you to use 12.5 hours of your entitlement in two days .

  2. Childcare Vouchers:This is a type of salary sacrifice scheme and is operated by your employer.  At the time of writing the child care voucher scheme enables both parents to take some of their salary (at the moment £243 a month each) in e-vouchers which can then be paid directly towards your child care bill. Apply through your company personnel department. This system operates by taking the childcare fee from the parent’s gross salary, before tax and national insurance contributions, generating a considerable saving for tax payers.

  3. Child Tax Credit:If you are responsible for a child who lives with you, you may be eligible to receive payments called Child Tax Credits. Phone the Helpline on 0845 300 3900, or visit any Inland Revenue Enquiry Centre for further information

  4. Student Funding: Because the funding listed below in A and B originates from central government, eligibility to apply for help is restricted to home fee status students from the UK, studying on a full time undergraduate or some full or part-time postgraduate courses.

A. Childcare Grant: Full time undergraduates and some postgraduates on low incomes may be eligible for help with their fees. Apply to your local LEA, or for more information and to download. Apply on line to www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance or call 08453 005090

B. Childcare Subsidy Fund:  Due to government cut backs this grant is NO LONGER AVAILABLE . Help with child care costs can still be applied for through the Access to Learning Fund at www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance or call 08453 005090. Through the Access to Learning Fund the University seeks to help some student parents with the cost of childcare fees incurred in relation to pursuing a course of study at The University of Exeter . This is means tested and the fund cannot, in all cases provide the same level of support previously available through the Childcare Subsidy Fund. Application packs will be available from August 1 from the Student Funding Team 01392 263858 or funding@exeter.ac.uk or from us at the Family Centre on 01392 725416.

C. Student Advice: If you need assistance completing your application form, or need advice about other sources of student funding, contact Student Guild Advice Unit 01392 723520 or email student advice@exeter.ac.uk
