Site Manager upgraded
We upgraded Site Manager on 25 January 2012 to install a new version 7.1.
Although this new version functions in much the same way as you are used to, visually it looks rather different and there are some important changes to the way the menus are organised. These changes improve the usability of the system for users; for example, by making it quicker to access content for editing.
Some significant changes to note are:
- The top menus have been slightly rearranged, the main difference being that the Media Library is now available from the Content menu, and not the Tools menu as at present.
- There is a bolder and clearer interface. The text is now resizeable and can be scaled up to suit your preferences.
- The Section drop-down menus from the main Site Structure window have been expanded to provide more options. A major advantage is that you can now get directly to the Content tab of a section from the site structure by clicking 'Modify content' from the section menu.
- There is a new content editor. This does not look very different from the one you are currently using, but some of the icons have changed. There is a list of these available in the revised training notes to explain which button does what.
- A new ‘Special character’ button allows you to include accented characters, punctuation marks (such as quote marks) and other symbols in your content easily, by inputting the correct HTML codes for you.
- The new editor also provides a ‘Paste as plain text’ button, removing the need for you to paste content into Notepad separately to clean it up before pasting into Site Manager.
- When developing new content, or carrying out extensive amendments, there is a new ‘Save as Draft’ option which allows you to save your updates without any risk of them being approved and published before you are ready.
