Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (CoSHH)
The COSHH Regulations impose duties on the University to protect its staff and any other persons, whether at work or not, who may be affected by the hazards of the University's work involving substances hazardous to health, including chemical and biological agents. The Regulations, and compliance with them (as with any other health and safety legislation) must constitute an integral part of the management system of the University’s Colleges, Services or similar Management Units. Compliance is not only a legal duty, it will also reduce the incidence of ill health, ensure best working practice and will promote a positive health and safety culture within the University. Hence our students will be led by example and will both learn and experience the best standards of health and safety.
No work may be carried out using substances hazardous to health unless a risk assessment has been carried out and any identified hazards are adequately controlled to reduce risk, as far as is reasonably practicable.
