8.0 Statutory checking of monitors

8.1 As required by the Radiations Regulations, the monitors held and used by the University Radiation Protection Service are checked annually against traceable sources by the National Radiological Protection Board, and certificates are issued.

8.2 All monitors in the University other than these are checked annually by the Radiation Protection Service against check sources, and the results recorded. Any malfunction of the equipment is reported to the person responsible for the maintenance of the monitor.

8.3 It is the responsibility of the Radiation Protection Supervisor to ensure that a suitable monitor, in full working order, is available when required. If necessary, the provision of such a monitor must be costed in the project proposal.

8.4 It is the responsibility of the individual worker to check that the monitor is functioning correctly when used, and to report any malfunction immediately to the Radiation Protection Supervisor.
