Safe and healthy workplace

The University has a legal, financial and moral duty to provide you with a safe and healthy workplace. You have a duty to work in a safe manner and report any potentially unsafe conditions which may cause harm or damage. To ensure compliance with its duties the University has a system of health and safety management in place. It also has two key support teams in place (Health and Safety and Occupational Health), both part of Human Resources and located on the Streatham Campus in the Queen’s Building.

Health and safety

Members of the Health and Safety Office aim to ensure that you can work in the University in a safe and healthy manner. We can offer advice on your workplace environment (space, lighting, temperature, humidity) and on the optimum arrangement of computer work stations.

We also inspect and audit the University’s Colleges, Professional Services, buildings and grounds to ensure that very high standards of health and safety are maintained. We also provide health and safety training

Occupational Health

The Occupational Health Service (OHS) aims to encourage and support an environment within the University that helps you fulfil your potential, irrespective of medal conditions or disability.  We seek to improve your wellbeing by giving advice to help you prevent work-related injury or ill-health and will assist your return to work after a period of sickness absence.

We provide a range of services, including face-to-face and phone consultations, and offer counselling where necessary. We can offer advice on the optimum set-up of computer workstations, and manage the arrangements for eye test and provision of glasses under the Display Screen Equipment Regulations (1992).
