Support from colleagues can be of great benefit to wellbeing.

Support

Support is:

  • the encouragement,
  • sponsorship and
  • resources you receive from your colleagues, your manager and the University

Situation that may lead to stress

You may feel isolated and stressed if you cannot communicate well with your line manager or your colleagues, or you do not feel that you have adequate support or are not provided with constructive feedback and advice.

What can be done to reduce stress

You should be given the opportunity to discuss instance where you are not receiving adequate support with your line manager. You should both give and receive support and encouragement from your manager and colleagues and you should be kept informed of any developments or changes. You should be made fully aware of the resources made available to you and your colleagues and, in particular, of any issues causing a lack of resources.

The ideal situation

You receive adequate information and support from your colleagues and your manager, and systems are in place locally to respond to any individual concerns.
