Support from colleagues can be of great benefit to wellbeing.
Support
Support means:
- the encouragement,
- sponsorship, and
- resources your staff receive from you, their colleagues and the University
Situation that may lead to stress
Your staff will feel isolated and stressed if they cannot communicate easily and effectively with you or they do not feel that they have adequate support or they are not provided with constructive feedback and advice.
What can be done to reduce stress
You should encourage your staff to engage with and enjoy their work, you should praise them when you feel they have performed well and provide them with support and constructive advice when things haven’t gone so well. You should carefully assess the resources they have to do their work and, if there are deficiencies, these should be addressed.
The ideal situation
Your staff receive adequate communication, resources, encouragement and praise from you and their colleagues, and systems are in place to respond to any individual concerns.
