Holistic therapies for Staff Association members

Rebecca Cunningham Holistics

Rebecca Cunningham is a Holistic Therapist specialising in Reflexology, Indian Head Massage and Hopi Ear Candling offering relaxation sessions for University staff within the comfort of their own workplace.

Sessions can be tailored to meet an individual’s requirements; whether you require a 30 minute oasis of calm during the working day or a stress releasing therapy treatment at the end of a long day (or week!). All therapies are available in a quiet room on campus. There is no need to de-robe and therapy oils are not used - so you can return to work still looking professional and definitely more revitalised!

Therapies have been developed to provide mental relaxation as well as target body areas prone to stress and strain. So if you spend a lot of time on your feet, behind a computer or giving presentations, I’m sure I can develop a therapy routine to suit you.

As a member of the University’s Staff Association you will be entitled to:

  • Reflexology: £10 for 30 minutes, £20 for 1 hour
  • Indian Head Massage: £10 for 30 minutes, £15 for 45 minutes

Reflexology

Reflexology: Reflexology involves treating the body by applying massage to specific areas of the feet. The feet reflect the whole body, with different areas of the feet corresponding to other parts of the body. This treatment allows not just one symptom to be treated but the causes of that symptom too. Reflexology can be used to restore and maintain the body's natural balance and encourage healing. A course of treatment may alleviate symptoms of:

  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Digestive disorders
  • Sinus problems
  • Muscular tension, restriction and pain
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Skin problems
  • Sleep disorders
  • Headaches and Migraines

Reflexology is easily adapted to meet the needs of all ages and levels of health.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head massage will soothe away stress and tension, the treatment takes place in a seated position, working over the head, face, shoulders, arms and hands (specifically targeting areas of tension). Oils can be used during the massage, which can be helpful in treating dry skin, hair conditions and muscular tension. Indian Head Massage can help to:

  • Increase joint mobility and flexibility in the neck and shoulders
  • Improve blood circulation and lymphatic flow
  • Free muscular tension
  • Reduce the effects of stress and tension
  • Aid concentration and increase energy levels
  • Improve sleep patterns
  • Relieve eyestrain and tension headaches
  • Improve hair conditions

Hopi Ear Candling (using BIOSUN candles)

A deep and relaxing, calming and soothing treatment offering benefits for many problems and conditions associated with the ear, nose and throat areas. The candles are not 'candles' in the traditional sense but delicate cotton tubes which are made from premium quality, pesticide-free untreated woven cotton; together with pure beeswax, honey, and herbal essences of sage, st. johns wort, and chamomile. Free from paraffin and other synthetic ingredients.

Both ears are always treated, with the client lying comfortably on one side. After each candle has been burned, a massage of the ear and face is carried out to encourage lymphatic flow. The treatment is useful for suffers of the following conditions:

  • Excess or compacted ear wax
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Rhinitis
  • Tonsillitis
  • Sinus problems
  • Tinnitus
  • Pain and pressure when flying or diving
