Staff Choir
A choir made up of staff (current and retired) and post graduate students formed in November 2011 to lead the congregation at the Christmas by Candlelight ecumenical service held in the Mary Harris Memorial Chapel (University Chapel, Streatham Campus) in December 2012.
Since then the choir have performed two further concerts, Faure Requiem on Monday 2nd April under the baton of alumnus and local conductor, Laurence Blyth, and a lunchtime concert to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on Friday 1st June. The latter was conducted by Prof. Anthony Musson (Director of Music at the University Chapel, and staff member of the Law School), and featured rousing anthems from the 1953 Coronation including Parry, I Was Glad and Handel, Zadok the Priest.
The choir is un-auditioned and comprises around 16 – 25 singers from all walks of University life…current staff, retired staff, postgraduate students, all coming together from both Exeter campuses! At the moment we do not meet on a weekly basis, but rehearse on a project (concert) by project basis, normally on a Thursday lunchtime, aiming to perform the concert on 4 rehearsals.
For more information about the choir and to register interest for future projects, please email Bjoern Fabritius b.fabritius@exeter.ac.uk
As a retired member of staff, it was a great pleasure to participate in a group which included such a wide range of members of the University community.
