Special Interest Groups, Socials and Benefits
What's in it for me as an individual?
How do I access the shopping discounts?
What's in it for the Special interest Groups I join?
What events will the Committee be organising throughout the year?
1) What's in it for me as an individual?
- The opportunity to meet more colleagues across the university with shared interests and hobbies
- More motivation to leave your desks at lunchtime and go to a club/rehearsal/social event instead
- Access to a wide range of shopping discounts
- More opportunities to unwind before/after work
2) How do I access the shopping discounts?
You need to go to Exeter Rewards and log in with details that you have either received with your Welcome Pack or with your membership card. FAQ's and further information can be found on the Benefits and Discount section.
3) Can my partner attend events?
Some events will be open to partners, although they may be required to pay a non-member ticket price for some ticketed events.
4) Tell me more about Special Interest Groups - what's already running; do their members all have to be members of the Association and how do I set something up?
Special Interest groups (or clubs) are being encouraged to form as a means of getting people together across campus(es!) who have familiar interests and hobbies - whether this results in the formation of lunchtime groups, after work clubs or weekend events. There are a number of groups in varying embryonic stages of formation based at Streatham Campus, including a Lunchtime Knitting Circle, a Book Club, Surf Group, Ultimate Frisbee team and a Squash club. We are aware of other creative groups (Arts and Crafts, Choir and Theatre going) looking to establish themselves over the next few months - contact a Social Committee member for more details.
If you are interested in setting up a new group whether at Streatham, St Luke's, Tremough or elsewhere, please contact the Social Committee - we might know of other people who are similarly interested and more hands make light work! It will be possible in due course to apply to the Association Social Committee for assistance with start-up funding, and thereafter, groups will be encouraged to apply for funding on an annual basis.
In the first year of bushiness, members of groups do not have to be members of the Staff Association, although it is in the interests of the groups for members to be members of the overarching Association when applying for funding from the Association.
5) What's in it for the clubs I join?
Special Interest groups (clubs) are eligible to apply to the Association for funding towards a range of resources and activities. Please contact the Social Committee for further information.
6) Will there be family events?
Yes- we hope to hold a range of social events across the year, including a number of events open to families and some specifically aimed at families.
7) What events will the Social Committee be organising throughout the year?
The Social Committee will organise a range of social events across the year, including:
- regular 'First Friday of the Month' socials either on Streatham campus or on the fringes of it
- trips and excursions (transport to the Ottery Tar Barrels, Christmas shopping trips to Bath, visits to national Trust properties etc.)
8) How will I hear about events?
Events will be advertised on the News and Events section of this website as well as emailed to members.
