Dr Jamie Shea

Dr Jamie Shea is Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges at NATO.

Dr Shea has enjoyed a hugely varied and challenging career with NATO spanning over 30 years. He has worked as Director of Information and Press and, whilst serving as Spokesman of NATO and Deputy Director of Information and Press during the war in Kosovo, he was widely praised by journalists from all over the world for his accessibility and ability to disseminate information.

Dr Shea has held positions as Deputy Head and Senior Planning Officer, Policy Planning Unit and Multilateral Affairs Section of the Political Directorate and has acted as speechwriter to the Secretary General of NATO as well as drafting NATO Ministerial communiqués and undertaking policy planning of Ministerial meetings

He has also acted as assistant to the Secretary General of NATO for Special Projects; most notably speechwriting, ghostwriting of articles, press releases, book chapters and official communiqués; advising the Secretary General on political and military issues and on his public communications strategy.

Dr Shea holds a number of academic positions in Europe and the United States and is a regular lecturer and conference speaker on NATO and European security affairs and on public diplomacy and political communication and lobbying.
