Mr Rob Wainwright

I am a strong advocate for close cooperation between academia and government. Government agencies need access to the latest evidence to support their policies and can increasingly benefit from a wide range of academic disciplines in trying to find innovative responses to modern policy challenges. Particularly in the fields of law enforcement and national security, policy makers need access to a broad base of evidence as terrorist, cyber and crime threats expand, diversify and become more interlinked. Meanwhile the academic community is increasingly benefiting from breaking down the walls between ‘researchers’ and ‘practitioners’, with a growing number of experts pursuing careers which bridge this divide. This positive trend is epitomised by the University of Exeter and in particular the Strategy and Security Institute.
