About the Exeter Student Ambassador Scheme
The Student Recruitment Office acts as the first point of contact between schools, colleges and prospective students in order to introduce them to the opportunities available in higher education.
Student ambassadors work with young people aged between 13-18 years from a diverse range of backgrounds. The Exeter Student Ambassador Scheme works with a particular regional focus in partnership with schools and colleges in the Southwest to try to support and encourage those who are able but are not aspiring. We also attend higher education conventions all over the country and welcome visitors at open days and on campus tours.
Core duties which we expect ambassadors to undertake will include showing prospective students and their parents round the University on organised campus tours, helping out at the main pre-application open days, assisting visitors at post-offer open days and acting as hosts to groups on incoming school visits. Some ambassadors may also visit schools to make presentations and help run workshops; others may attend higher education conventions and careers fairs. Ambassadors are given the opportunity to apply to work on residentials run during our Easter and summer vacations. Ambassadors will be provided with extensive training in order to prepare them for the role.
In addition to all of the above, ambassadors have the opportunity to work on tutoring programmes. This involves going into targeted schools within the Southwest to support students who need more encouragement to progress to higher education. The tutoring consists of six group sessions across the year. In addition, we run a separate modern foreign languages tutoring programme which consists of students going into schools and assisting teachers with the promotion and learning of modern foreign languages.
