This page contains training and support resources aimed to help mentees throughout the Career Mentor Scheme.
Mentee Training Guide
Before mentoring begins, every mentee is provided with a Mentee Training Guide which contains useful resources, allows you to set objectives of what you wish to achieve by the end of the scheme, and acts as a step-by-step guide throughout the mentoring process.
Resources to help meet your objectives
We ask all mentees to select the objectives you would like to achieve by the end of the scheme at the start of the mentoring process (see the Mentee Training Guide).
Below are links to internal and external resources for you to share with your mentor to help you achieve your chosen objectives.
Objective: Increase my knowledge of job hunting resources in this sector (e.g. web pages, printed materials and recruitment events)
Tips / resources: Ask your mentor for specific career planning websites, printed materials and recruitment events related to their sector.

Tips / resources: Ask your mentor if you can test an application form from their organisation and ask if they can provide feedback. Send your mentor an example covering letter and ask if they can provide feedback.

Tips / resources: Ask your mentor if they can conduct a mock interview with you for an example job at their organisation and ask if they can provide feedback.

Tips / resources: Ask your mentor if they could suggest work experience/internship opportunities in their sector and suggest possible organisations that you could apply for.
Objective: Improve my personal development skills (e.g. confidence building, listening skills)
Tips / resources: Ask your mentor to help you with a personal skill you would like to develop (e.g. listening skills). See following links for suggestions and activities to help improve these skills.
Objective: Improve my knowledge of further education/professional courses related to this sector
Tips / resources: Ask you mentor to suggest possible further education or professional courses which may help or be a requirement to achieve a career in their sector.
Objective: Widen my contacts and networking opportunities
Tips / resources: Ask your mentor to suggest networking events, conferences, or online networking opportunities which you could join.
Objective: Increased knowledge of the sector entry requirements and good/bad aspects of the sector
Tips / resources: Ask your mentor for the expected entry requirements/level of experience required for jobs at different levels in their sector. Ask your mentor if they could share their experiences of the good and bad aspects of their job, organisation and the sector.

Tips / resources: Ask your mentor to proofread your CV and suggest tips which they think could strengthen your CV.
