Cost of Attendance

The Cost of Attendance is the total amount it will cost you to study at the University of Exeter - usually expressed as a yearly figure. It’s determined using rules established by law. The COA includes tuition and fees; on-campus room and board (or a housing and food allowance for off-campus students); and allowances for books, supplies, transportation, and, if applicable, dependent care. It also includes miscellaneous and personal expenses, including an allowance for the rental or purchase of a personal computer.

Costs related to a disability are also covered. The University of Exeter has establised a set of what is deemed to be 'reasonable' levels of expenditure whilst studying here for the academic year 2012-13 as outlined below:

Tuition fees will also be included in your Cost of Attendance and will be set at the actual amount that you are required to pay. Please contact the Student Funding Team through the Student Information Desk (Sid@exeter.ac.uk) if you believe your actual costs are higher than those stated above as we may be able to make some adjustments to your Cost of Attendance, however please note that you will be required to provide documentary evidence in support to this and may be asked to justify the additional cost.

Estimated Family Contribution (EFC)

For Undergratuate students only your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is the number that’s used to determine your eligibility for federal student financial aid. This number results from the financial information you provided in your FAFSA application. Your EFC is reported to you on your Student Aid Report (SAR). Having calculated your Cost of Attendance, the University must apply this number to your eligibility for any Direct Subsidised loan eligibility.

Effective Financial Aid (EFA)

You are obliged to inform the University of Exeter's Student Funding Team through the Student Information Desk (Sid@exeter.ac.uk) about any other funding that you are entitled to receive, such as scholarships, grants or bursaries. This additional funding will affect the level of loan that you are eligible to receive.
