Eligibility
General eligibility conditions for financial aid
To receive aid a student must meet the following eligibility criteria
- Must be a student enrolled or accepted on an eligible program.
- Must have a high school diploma.
- Must be enrolled at least half-time for the period for which the loan is originated.
- Must comply with the University's satisfactory academic progress policy.
- Must not be convicted of possessing or selling illegal drugs while receiving financial aid.
- Must be a US citizen or eligible non citizen with a valid Social Security number.
- Must Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year
- If Male and aged between 18-25, must register for Selective Service
- Must not be in default on an educational loan and must not owe a repayment on an adjusted Federal grant.
From 1st November 2010 students are not eligible for Direct Loans for any (non vacation) time spent in the USA. The only exception to this is 12 months research carried out during the dissertation phase of a doctoral program, where the research can only be performed in the U.S. for more infomration see extract from the Federal Register Vol.75 No 210, page 67172 bottom right paragraph.
An educational program offered by a foreign school is not an eligible program for federal student aid if it is provided by correspondance or distance learning in whole or in part.
