Tuition Fee Loan

If you are a full-time, undergraduate EU or UK student, you can apply for a tuition fee loan to cover the cost of your tuition fees. If you are unsure as to whether you qualify, please check the information on the UKCISA website.

The tuition fee loan is paid directly to the University. You can borrow up to the amount of your tuition fee for the year. If you do not apply for the Tuition Fee loan, or decide not to apply for the full amount, then you will be required to pay your fees yourself, in line with the University’s payment deadlines.

How Much is the Loan?

This will depend on whether you are a new or returning student for the 2012/13 academic year.

If you began your course before September 2012 you will be able to borrow up to £3,465.

If you are starting your course in September 2012, you will be able to borrow up to £9,000.

How is the Tuition Fee Loan Paid?

The loan is paid directly to the University. In 2012/13 it will be paid in the following instalments;

When payment is made to the UniversityHow much is paid
 At the start of term 1  25% of the tuition fee
 At the start of term 2  25% of the tuition fee
 At the start of term 3  50% of the tuition fee

Can I Change My Tuition Fee Loan Amount?

If you change your mind about the amount of tuition fee loan that you want to borrow for an academic year after you have completed the application forms, you can still amend the loan up or down (up to the maximum tuition fee loan entitlement). Please note however that if you reduce your loan amount you will then become liable to the University for the balance of your tuition fees.

If you decide, during the academic year, that you wish to change the amount of Tuition Fee loan that you have requested, you should contact Student Finance England.

How is the Loan Repaid?
