Help for postgraduate students
Funding for most postgraduate students is very limited. Apart from PGCE students postgraduate students are not eligible for student loans, and there are no general government schemes for assisting with tuition fees.
If you are a home (UK) postgraduate student studying on at least a 50% basis compared to a full time course, you will be eligible to apply for the Access to Learning Fund. However these funds cannot provide the main living costs for a student or be awarded to pay tuition fees.
If you are a Postgraduate student, you are expected to show that you can meet your tuition fees and that you have made reasonable provision to support yourself through your course before we will consider your application to the Access to Learning Fund. Further information about the Access to Learning Fund for Postgraduate students will be available from this page shortly.
For more information please see Access to Learning Fund.
For further information on funding opportunities for postgraduate students please visit the Prospects website which is all about graduate carers.
Professional and Career Development Loans
Professional and Career Development Loans are bank loans that can be used to help pay for work related learning. You can borrow between £300 and £10,000 to help support the cost of up to two years of learning (or three years if it includes one year’s relevant unpaid practical work). The Young People’s Learning Agency will pay the interest on the loan while you are learning and for one month afterwards. The loan can be used to pay course fees or other costs such as travel and living expenses. You can also use the loan to supplement other forms of support such as grants or bursaries. Because the Professional and Career Development Loan is a commercial loan product, they should only be considered as an option once all other student funding options have been investigated. For further information on financial assistance to support your learning, please visit the DirectGov Website or contact Careers Advice on 0800 100 900. Our learning provider registration number is: 2878
