Subject areas 2010/11 entry
Module lists and descriptions
On each of the subject area pages you will find a link to the relevant page on our School/Department websites that lists the modules that are running in the current year, 2009/10. You will find these School pages open in a new window. The lists are accurate at the time of compilation, but are subject to change and offer a general guide only to the range of modules likely to be taught in each subject area in the academic year 2010/11.
For further advice on putting together a study programme, please see Planning your programme.
Please note that, in common with most British universities, we cannot guarantee the availability of modules in advance as some are subject to demand and staffing levels. Any listing of modules you complete on your application form will not be considered your final module choice. Module registration will take place on your arrival at the University, and your choice cannot be confirmed until then.
Module descriptions
On the Schools’ websites, for each module you will find a full module description which will provide you with the details you need to help you decide on their suitability for your year's study programme at the University of Exeter. Module descriptions are published in a standard University format that includes information on the level, workload, duration and scheduling, as well as details of, for example, the subject content and specific topics covered, any prerequisites, total study time required, teaching/learning methods and how the module is assessed.
Module Code: SOC2005
The first digit of the CODE indicates the level at which the subject is taught, eg SOC2005 would normally be taken by a second-year undergraduate at Exeter.
Credit value: 30 credits
The CREDIT VALUE indicates the expected workload, eg 30 credits is 25% of the full-year’s workload at the University of Exeter. Full-time study is 60 credits per semester, 120 credits per academic year.
Duration of Module: eg 1 semester (S1)
The DURATION indicates whether the module is taught over one or two semesters, and sometimes, for one-semester modules, in which semester it is taught, but how this scheduling information is indicated varies between subjects. You should bear in mind that the duration given applies to the timetable for the current academic year, and this may well change for the year for which you are applying. You should check with the School for further information when making your choice of modules, to ensure the timing of modules coincides with the semester(s) you plan to be at Exeter.
The dates and structure of the semesters are given under Academic year dates 2010/11.
