Scholarship for Student Director of Music

The Church of St. Michael and All Angels, Exeter

St Michael & All Angels is a daughter church in the University Parish of St. David’s, a very short distance from the University campus. The liturgy is Anglo-Catholic, and music forms an important part of the worship. The choir is friendly and enthusiastic, numbers about twenty, and includes a high proportion of university students.

The scholar will be responsible for assisting with the planning and directing of the music for the services in consultation with the clergy and Director of Music. The basic commitments are weekly Choral Mass, monthly Choral Evensong and Benediction, and weekly choir practice. There will be other occasional festivals in addition.

The scholarship is awarded at the rate of £350 per term and is reviewed annually.

Scholarships for Singers

Up to four Choral Scholarships are also available to singers of all parts. Good sight-reading skills are essential. Full Choral Scholarships are awarded at £250 per term.

University Music Scholarships

The choral/organ scholarships detailed above may be supplemented by additional awards made available by the University. Scholars will be expected to participate in other music making in the University. Applicants should indicate their interest in being considered to the Director of Music at the University (please see University Music Scholarships page).
