FAQs: 1-1 appointments

1-1 appointments are available to all undergraduate and taught postgraduate students.

Postgraduate research students meeting the criteria for the Hidden Talent in Devon project can also access 1–1 appointments.

To book an appointment, please submit a request form

Note that requests go through the My Career Zone website, however, your appointment will be with a Study Zone Adviser.

We can offer advice on a wide range of study-related areas, including:

  • Academic writing
  • Understanding feedback
  • Reading and notemaking strategies
  • Critical analysis
  • Revision and exam strategies
  • Presentation skills

Even if your question does not fall into any of the topics above, please contact us if you'd like help with anything relating to your University study.

You'll be seen by one of our Study Skills Advisers:

  • Dr Rachel Canter
  • Claire Davey-Potts
  • Dr Rosey Davies
  • Amanda Pocklington
  • John Shanahan

1-1 appointments are now taking place online.

When your appointment is confirmed, you will receive an email outlining how to join the meeting.

A 45 minute appointment will be booked for you.

Absolutely! The purpose of a 1-1 appointment is to give you an opportunity to ask specific questions about your own work so that you can move forward and improve your study skills.

Our Skills Advisers can look over your work with you. To help you to get the best out of your appointment, we ask you to send your work to the Adviser as soon as possible and no later than 24 hours before your appointment time.

Study Zone does not currently have its own system for logging appointments, so we use My Career Zone, a University system from which you and Study Zone staff can manage appointments and see your shared work.

Using My Career Zone for Study Zone appointments does not subscribe you to any careers or other activities.

Study Zone appointment details, including work you have uploaded to your appointment, can only be seen by Study Zone staff.
