What is Green Impact?

Each year the University takes part in an exciting project called Green Impact. Last year (2011/2012) 20 teams of staff from across the University's departments took part in the environmental accreditation scheme, to ‘green’ their work practices. Green Impact is run locally by the University but managed across several HEIs by the National Union of Students (NUS).

How does it work?

Staff are given an online workbook with Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum criteria to complete. Each criteria is a clear, easy to implement action. Each criteria also has a points value. Teams can work at their own pace and focus on areas of interest to them.  Bronze is essential while Silver, Gold and Platinum are optional. The team with the highest number of points gained by completed the crtiyia will achieve ‘top scorer’ status.

If you would like to sign up and take part in Green Impact as a team, please register on the website by using the tab on the left hand side of the page.

What do teams get out of the scheme?

  • Recognition for environmental actions the team already doing
  • The opportunity to encourage colleagues to think about the environment
  • The opportunity to save money
  • The opportunity to address misunderstandings about the environment
  • The opportunity to learn what actions are sustainable
  • The opportunity to be creative and find local solutions to local environmental issues
  • Create grass roots change across the University
