"I am thrilled about the Birds & Bees campaign. It will give students extra opportunities to learn about the importance of biodiversity and develop new skills through surveying and volunteering. I hope it will give them a sense of place and pride in their local environment and community"2010/11 Student Guild President Jonnie Beddall
Birds and Bees Campaign
In recognition of the UN Decade for Biodiversity we have launched the Birds and Bees campaign aims to identify and implement further enhancement projects, develop engagement projects for the University and local communities as well as providing opportunities to use the campus as a living laboratory through research projects undertaken by students and research staff.
The campaign was launched on 9 October 2010, when broadcaster and naturalist Nick Baker led a group of over 150 volunteering students, academics, members of the public and Devon Wildlife Trust experts for the first ever Bioblitz at the University of Exeter.
The Bioblitz, a quick census of species at the University, will be expanded and future activity will be delivered in partnership with Devon Wildlife Trust and Exeter Wild City. A Birds and Bees Campaign Manager was appointed by the University in February to develop the programme.
