BREEAM

The University uses  BRE Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM)  as a tool to address the environmental impact of buildings. This tool was developed by the Building Research Establishment and considers the following areas in the process:

  • Energy use
  • Health and well being
  • Pollution  
  • Transport
  • Land use
  • Ecology
  • Materials
  • Water

Buildings are assessed against the above criteria and credits are awarded according to performance. The building is independently rated Excellent, Very Good, Good or Pass depending on the total score gained.
