Sustainable Procurement
The University spends over £111m on non-pay items each year of which about £71m could be influenced by sustainable procurement. There is therefore a significant opportunity to reduce our impact on the environment through the products we select and to influence our staff, students and suppliers to improve their sustainability.
The University aims to positively influence the environmental performance of suppliers, goods and services through developing plans for each high risk commodity area, ensuring quarterly reviews are conducted of each sustainable impact areas and applying whole life costing.
The high risk/opportunity categories have been identified as construction, IT, food, utilities, travel and paper.
