Carbon emissions based car parking charges

The University’s car parking charges are based on the carbon emissions of your vehicle. So drivers of energy efficient cars benefit from reduced parking charges. For example, the driver of the VW Polo Blue Motion (which emits just 99 grams of CO2 per kilometre) will be able to purchase a standard parking permit for lowest standard parking permit band. Taught students (including postgraduates) are not eligible to apply for a standard permit/ATP badge if their term time address is within the city boundary. All staff and research students may apply for a standard parking permit.

Authority to park (ATP) car parking charge

Drive to campus less than 3 days a week?  Would you like to have a car parking permit as a back up to your main form of transport? Then the Authority to Park permit is for you.

An ‘Authority to Park’ badge is available for all staff free of charge.

‘Authority to Park’ badges entitle holders to purchase the special reduced daily rate ‘pay and display’ parking tickets.  Both the ATP badge and the valid parking ticket must be clearly visible to parking attendant staff whilst the vehicle is on the campus. Please display the ATP badge in the near side of your front windscreen.

Car lease scheme

The University runs a car leasing scheme.

The University recognises that for some employees there is no practical alternative to commuting by car. The aims of this scheme are:

  1. To enable staff to drive a new car without having to fund the costs of a capital purchase;
  2. To encouraging staff to drive energy efficient vehicles, only cars which emit less than 140 grams of CO2 per kilometre will be available through the scheme.
