Car sharing

What are the benefits of car sharing?

The University offers a suite of car sharing incentives which will save you money on your University car parking permit, make finding a car space easier and fund a return journey home should your lift fail in the event of an emergency or unforeseen problem.  Carsharedevon.com is easy to use and finding a car share match is easy and safe.

The University of Exeter Car Sharing Scheme is open to  University members who are currently entitled to a Standard Parking Permit and who are registered users of the University private car sharing group (through carsharedevon.com with a confirmed car share team match).

Car share permits

The permit cost for each car share team will be the same as the lowest annual parking permit band.  One permit will be issued per team and shared by the team with each team member being issued a parking permit holder.  Each permit will have up to 4 registrations on the permit.  Drivers will be required to exchange previously held annual permits at the time of issue of a car share permit.  The designated lead driver will co-ordinate this.

On days where the team does not share (i.e. holidays, sickness, etc), pay and display fees will apply and used with an Authority to Park badge.

Those eligible for a standard car parking permit are eligible to apply for a car sharing permit. A quick step by step guide is available to guide you through the permit application process. The car share permit application is available on the car parking pages

For information please see Full Terms and Conditions and FAQs.

Preferential Parking for Formal Car Sharers

Car share permit holders will be entitled to park in the preferential car sharing parking spaces. On days where the team does not share (i.e. holidays, sickness, etc), non-car sharing spaces must be used before 9.30am.

Preferential car sharing parking spaces (denoted by blue 2+ markings in the parking bay) will be available in Queens Car Park, Car Park D and Northcote House Car Park.  Additional car sharing spaces will be phased in at various other locations across the Exeter campuses according to demand.

All spaces will revert to standard parking after 9.30am and at weekends.  This will ensure that spaces do not remain empty throughout the day and has the added benefit of enabling staff that arrive after 9.30am to benefit from any unused car sharing spaces.

Emergency Travel Home Scheme for Car Sharers

Concerned that if you car share that you will be unable to get home in the event of an emergency? The Emergency Travel Home (ETH) Scheme will fund/part fund University formal car sharing teams a return journey home should their lift fail in the event of an emergency or unforeseen problem.

This applies to University staff car sharers only.  Applicants must be the passenger, as the ETH Scheme assumes that the driver will drive or make his/her own arrangements.  The applicant will be retrospectively reimbursed the cost of their travel.
