Student societies

There are a number of active and exciting student societies which offer practical opportunities to get involved in different areas of sustainability across our Exeter and Cornwall Campuses.  These include:

Society Affiliation Description
Bee Society FXU Dedicated to raising awareness amongst both students and the local community on issues concerning our pollinators. They run research talks, a certified bee keeping course for members, with practical sessions in the society’s own campus beehives. 
Be The Change Students' Guild Society encourages students to make a difference both locally and globally through a variety of projects and events.
BioSoc Students' Guild Society for Biology and Life sciences students and anyone interested, BioSoc runs a variety of events often with green themes and environmental links.
Eco Society FXU Aims to give everyone the opportunity to learn about nature, experience Cornish wildlife, gain skills in ecology and conservation, help local projects and raise the profile of wildlife to everyone. They run many different events such as moth trapping, bird ringing, beach cleans, photography workshops and habitat management.
Enactus FXU

Society that uses the power of entrepreneurial lives to create a better, more sustainable future. We currently have three projects being run on campus including Launchpad, BEE Project and the NEETs project.

Engineers Without Borders FXU

Branch of EWB-UK and embodies their mission to lead a movement which inspires, enables and influences global responsibility through engineering. Projects so far have included everything from trips around Cornwall to sessions on making home-made solar panels. 

Engineers Without Borders Exeter Students' Guild Exeter branch of an international development organisation that removes barriers to development through engineering. Its programmes provide opportunities for young people to learn about technology's role in tackling poverty.
Exeter University Cycling Club Students' Guild Student run club with a comprehensive range of Road and Off-Road rides. We have about 70 members and compete in local races and BUCS competitions.
Expedition Society FXU

The Expedition society runs full day hikes to stunning locations such as Bodmin and North Devon and also half days walks to some of the more local locations around Penryn and Falmouth. 

Expedition Society Students' Guild Anyone who has a sense of adventure, a love of the outdoors, or just a fondness for a sociable pint will find themselves more than at home in the Expedition Society.
Generation Wild FXU

An exciting, new student-project. The projects main goal is to form links with local schools and Scout/Guides groups, to get children engaged and learning about the natural environment. 

Geography Society FXU We are a society dedicated to all things geography - past events have included themed nights out, adventures around the country and surf trips. Our calendar is always full, with a variety of cultural, sporty and social trips, so you are sure to find something that appeals to you. 
Geology for Global Development FXU Is the Cornwall chapter with a number of similar University groups around the country providing support for the wider geoscience community in communicating the need for sustainable practice in areas such as mining, water collection and earthquake prediction. 
Green Living Society FXU This society is for Nature Lovers, Green Activists, Foraging Fanatics and all kinds of Gardeners. No experience required and lots of fun to be had.
Herpetology Society FXU Offer hands on opportunities with herptiles as well as gaining knowledge on native and exotic herpetofauna.
Out-of-Doors Students' Guild Society for those interested in exploring the countryside of the South West.
Life Magazine FXU Life is the nature magazine of the Cornwall Campuses, showcasing cutting edge research with stunning photography. Written and produced by students from both institutions, it is a real collaboration between the Universities.
Love The Oceans FXU Non-profit marine conservation organisation working in Guinjata bay, Mozambique. Our goal is to achieve a marine protected area for the Inhambane Provence and active a higher biodiversity whilst protecting endangered species. 
NatureWatch FXU A project run by Ecosoc, WildDocSoc and CLES working with students to create short documentary episodes focusing on Cornish wildlife. All current students from Exeter and Falmouth can apply to join the crew or the presenting team. 
Renewable Energy Sociey FXU Through socials, talks, trips and networking events we connect like-minded individuals at the Cornwall Campuses. Joining the society gives you the opportunity to attend talks from professionals in renewable energy industry, participate in sustainability themed field trips and engage in environmental projects on campus. 
Slow Food on Campus Students' Guild Society for those interested in food! The society aims to change food and farming through shared inspiration, food education and collective action.
UNICEF on Campus Students' Guild UNICEF on Campus Exeter aim to support the world's leading organisation by raising awareness for children and their rights. We help by organising fundraising events which provide aid to children so that they have access to education, healthcare, childhood and a bright future. 
Wild Doc Soc FXU Do you love wildlife media? Are you the next David Attenborough? Want to be inspired by some of the best names in the industry? Then Wild Doc Soc is the society for you! We've had visits from some of the biggest names in the world of wildlife, including Steve Backshall, George McGavin, Nick Baker and Gordon Buchanan!
