Shopping and retail

Considered the shopping centre of Cornwall, Truro boasts a wide variety of both chain and boutique shops. However, Falmouth and Penryn have their own charming collection of quirky independent retailers found alongside well-known high street businesses. In addition to shops selling surf gear, clothing, home decorations, and gifts, there are also many stores specialising in more unique items, such as vintage clothing, vinyls, and antiques.

Even if you aren’t in need of anything in particular, it’s always worth a trip to the renowned Trago Mills in Falmouth. This South West specialty offers a little bit of everything!

Penryn is probably best known for its collection of art galleries. One of the most notable is the glass gallery and studio run by Malcolm Sutcliffe, who periodically hosts an open house so that visitors can watch the remarkable process of glass-blowing in person before browsing through the shop’s collection of jewellery and decorations. Elsewhere in town are shops selling pottery, paintings, jewellery, clothing, and crafts made by local artisans.

Falmouth offers shoppers a wide variety of ways to enjoy some retail therapy. In addition to the many galleries that can be found along the main thoroughfare (Arwenack, Church, and High Streets), there are also boutiques selling gifts (Spice, Tallships, Willow & Stone), clothing and accessories (Dizzy, Wild Pony and Vintage Warehouse 13), a pair of excellent record shops (secondhand specialists Sounds OK, and the Pitchfork-endorsed Jam). There are also several nationally known chains, such as New Look, Saltrock, Seasalt, and Joules.

There’s a reason that Truro is known as the shopping capital of Cornwall. It boasts a huge selection of shops selling everything from jewellery and gifts to food and homeware. Head to Lemon Quay to visit the farmers’ market and larger shops such as M&S and Debenhams. The nearby Pannier and Lemon Street Markets have smaller boutiques, while the Pydar Mews and Victoria Square areas boast everything in between.
