The University of Exeter is delighted to have received an institutional 5 Star rating in the 2018 QS evaluation, making us one of only 12 UK universities to have achieved the 5 Stars or 5 Stars+ grade.

QS Stars is a global ratings system that provides a detailed look at an institution, across a number of categories, thereby allowing the reader to focus on the aspects of an institution which are of greatest importance to them. The University's overall rating was made up of eight individual categories – teaching; employability; research; internationalisation; facilities; innovation; inclusiveness and a specialist subject, geography. Exeter was awarded 5 Stars in all eight categories.

Teaching

In the Teaching category, University of Exeter has performed extremely well with 136 points and 5 Stars. With a Faculty Student ration of 8.5%, Exeter has received full points in this indicator. The students at the University of Exeter have reported a high level of satisfaction in both their overall experience and satisfaction with teaching, thereby scoring full points in each indicator.

Employability

Employability is a key component of Exeter's success as can be seen with full points and 5 Stars in this category. The institution has an excellent reputation among domestic and international employers, contributing to its overall stellar performance. The university has an optimal ratio of dedicated careers advisors per student and there are also opportunities for its students to meet on-campus careers advisors. These opportunities are reflected by the high graduate employability rate of 93%. With a perfect score of 150 points, this is one of Exeter's strongest performances.

Research

University of Exeter has received 123 of a possible 150 points and 5 Stars in the Research category. With more than 700 nominations in the last analysis of the QS World University Rankings, Exeter has received excellent marks in the QS Global Academic Survey. The institution's research outputs are high, its academic staff have 52.34 citations per faculty and 5.98 papers per faculty.

Internationalization

University of Exeter has achieved another perfect performance and 5 Stars in the Internationalization category. The university shows its commitment to internationalisation through its research collaborations with top universities. Further, Exeter has deployed excellent internationalization tools and succeeded in attracting many international students and faculty staff, from a global perspective. Almost 34% of Faculty and 26% of Students come from outside the United Kingdom. Similarily, by building exchange networks with a wide range of institutions and boosting student exchange rates, Exeter has scored full points in both the Inbound and Outbound Exchange Students indicator. With at least 3 separate religious facilities for major religions, full points were received. And finally, with more than 50 nationalities in the student body, Exeter has achieved full points in this indicator as well.

Facilities

In terms of Facilities, University of Exeter has received 96 points and 5 Stars. The score attained reflects the excellent conditions offered by the institution to its students in terms of infrastructure and access to learning and leisure opportunities. The university has excellent student accommodation, IT infrastructure, library facilities, medical facilities, and student societies. 

Specialist Criteria

University of Exeter has received 150 points and 5 Stars in the Specialist Criteria, Geography. Exeter appeared 15th in the Discipline Ranking in the QS World University Rankings by Subject for Geography for the maximum 150 points.

Innovation

Exeter is a world leader in innovation and that is reflected by 36 of a possible 50 points and 5 Stars in this category. Further, with over 1500 industrial research collaborations, the university has scored full points in this indicator. Moreover, with at least 5 spin-off companies, Exeter has scored full points in this indicator as well.

Inclusiveness

In the Inclusiveness category, Exeter has received 46 of a possible 50 points and 5 Stars. It is evident from these results that the university focuses on attracting and fostering students from diverse backgrounds. Exeter makes considerable funds available for scholarships and grants. Additionaly, there is 100% disabled-access coverage on campus enabling visitors to access all the buildings. With 18% students identified as low-income, Exeter has achieved full points in this indicator.
