Undergraduate programmes 2017-18
The University of Exeter's typical offer in terms of GCE A-levels is A*AA-ABB, excluding General Studies, or 38-32 points in the International Baccalaureate Diploma (including bonus points). Each programme has slightly different requirements, both in terms of overall points and required subjects, so please check the relevant subject in the Undergraduate prospectus.
For information about qualifications from your country please see our EU UG Qualifications Equivalency Guide 2018 for Undergraduate programmes.
All students must also meet our linguistic requirements before they can receive an unconditional offer, please see the English language requirements webpage for more details.
All applications for undergraduate degrees must be made via UCAS and must include details of qualifications obtained and awaited along with a personal statement and reference - preferably from a teacher. Exeter’s UCAS code and name is E84 EXETR. All applicants for Medicine must apply by 15 October each year. We recommend applicants for all other programmes apply by 15 January as the course may be full after this point. The UCAS website indicates which courses are open to new applicants at any time. Please note that it is normal for UK universities to make conditional offers based on your results to date and to confirm these once you have the results of High School and/or language tests. Applicants who wish to apply for deferred entry should indicate this on the UCAS form and provide further details of their reasons for deferring in their personal statement. Applications can only be deferred for one year.
The University of Exeter requires applicants for Masters programmes (MA, MSc, MRes, MBA, MPA, LLM) to hold a Bachelors degree, usually in a relevant subject, with a grade equivalent to a UK upper second class honours. Students who do not meet these entry requirements may be able to take a Graduate Diploma programme as an alternative entry route into a Masters in Business, Finance, Law or Public Administration. Details of Graduate Diploma programmes here.
Our prospectus will indicate if there are additional programme requirements for specific Masters courses. For information about qualifications from your country please see the EU PGT Qualifications Equivalency Guide 2018 for Postgraduate taught programmes.
Applicants for postgraduate research programmes (MPhil, PhD, EdD) will need to demonstrate experience of research methodologies. For this reason, often, successful research applicants will have completed a Masters degree with a thesis or dissertation component.
All applications for postgraduate degrees should be made via the "Apply on-line" button on the webpage for each course. Applications can be made up to 12 months before the start date.
Taught Masters programmes have a single intake in September each year. Research students may be able to start at other times, with their supervisor's agreement.
Your fee status will depend on where you are from. When students apply, they are classified as "Home/EU" if they are from the UK or from the European Union, and "International" if they are from elsewhere. If you are not sure whether your fee status is "Home/EU" or "International", read this advice from The Complete University Guide.
Fees vary by programme and will be detailed in the offer letter you will receive after you have applied. Fees are not fixed at the point of entry for all years of study: there may be a small increase year-on-year for courses which are over one year in duration. For more information, please see our .
The University recommends that single students allow at least £1,015 per month for living costs, which includes accommodation, food and books, but not travel to/from the UK. Students with families (a spouse and children) should allow additional resources for each dependant. You can find more details about living costs on our International Student Support webpages. If you need a visa to study in the UK, for yourself and/or your dependants, you should familiarise yourself with UK Visas and Immigration's (UKVI's) financial requirements.
International students can apply for several of the University of Exeter's scholarships and bursaries. For further information please visit our . The British Council can also provide more information about funding schemes.
The International Student Support Office is here to help you with your immigration enquiries for the UK - from your initial application for a Tier 4 (General) Student visa to study your first course at Exeter, to visas for working after your studies.
Immigration is changing all the time, it is therefore extremely important that students keep up-to-date with the newest regulations when applying for their visas and access the free specialist immigration advice that we offer.
The University of Exeter offers a wide selection of university accommodation, on and off campus, to suit all tastes and budgets.
Accommodation is guaranteed for:
- new, unaccompanied first year undergraduates
- international fee-paying unaccompanied first year postgraduates
- full year Erasmus/Study Abroad students
as long as applications are received by the deadline of 31st July.
When you apply for accommodation, please note, you do NOT have to hold an Unconditional offer to submit your application: as long as your response is Firm, you will still be able to apply, even if your offer from the University of Exeter is Conditional. However, a room will not be allocated to you until all the conditions of your offer have been met.
Undergraduate students have a choice of catered or self-catered accommodation. There is a broad range of options: twin rooms, single studio bedrooms with bathroom and kitchen attached, and more. Postgraduate, Study Abroad and Erasmus students can only apply for self-catered accommodation.
For full details of the options available, as well as prices, facilities and 360-degree virtual tours of some of the rooms, visit our accommodation pages.
Students who would like to rent private, rather than University-run, accommodation can use the Accommodation Office's online database of privately rented accommodation. Visit the "Private Housing" section of the accommodation pages for details.
The University of Exeter has agreements with the following independent representatives in the EU, who would be pleased to tell you more about the University's facilities and programmes. They can also assist you in making an application.
