Country specific information

Find out information specific to your country below;

See your course details for specific entry requirements:

English language requirements

Direct entry:  Holders of A-Levels or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma are eligible for direct entry if they have met University of Exeter entry requirements. These are shown on the course pages of the University's website and in the undergraduate prospectus.

Foundation Year entry:  Holders of the Kenyan Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will normally be expected to take a Foundation programme prior to undergraduate entry. Find out more about International Foundation Year programmes at INTO Exeter here.

The standard requirement for entry onto taught Master's programmes at the University of Exeter is the equivalent of a 2:1 (normally, an Upper Second, 60% or equivalent) from a 4-year Bachelor's degree at a recognised university in Kenya.
For students whose qualifications do not quite meet these entry requirements and who are interested in Finance or Management programmes, the option to take a Graduate Diploma is offered by INTO in Exeter (details here).
For entry onto postgraduate research programmes, students will need to hold a good Master's degree supported by a strong research proposal.
For further information on applying for postgraduate study at the University of Exeter, please visit our "Application process" webpage here.

English language requirements

The University of Exeter recognises the following tests of English language proficiency: IELTS, TOEFL IBT and the Pearson Test of English. These must have been taken up to 2 years prior to enrolment in order to be valid.
From Kenya, a grade of C or higher in English in the KCSE may also be acceptable, if taken no more than 4 years prior to enrolment. For details of all qualifications currently accepted by the University of Exeter as proof of English language proficiency, visit our "Applications" page here.

Fee status

Your fee status will depend on where you are from. When students apply, they are classified as "Home/EU" if they are from the UK or from the European Union, and "International" if they are from elsewhere. If you are not sure whether your fee status is "Home/EU" or "International", read this advice from The Complete University Guide.

Tuition fees

Fees vary by programme and will be detailed in the offer letter you will receive after you have applied. Fees are not fixed at the point of entry for all years of study: there may be a small increase year-on-year for courses which are over one year in duration. For more information, please see our student finance webpage.

Living costs

The University recommends that single students allow at least £1,015 per month for living costs, which includes accommodation, food and books, but not travel to/from the UK. Students with families (a spouse and children) should allow additional resources for each dependant. You can find more details about living costs on our International Student Support pages. If you need a visa to study in the UK, for yourself and/or your dependants, you should familiarise yourself with UK Visas and Immigration's (UKVI's) financial requirements. Details are on our immigration advice webpage.

International students can apply for several of the University of Exeter's scholarships and bursaries. For further information please visit our scholarship search engine. The British Council can also provide more information about funding schemes.

The International Student Support Office is here to help you with your immigration enquiries for the UK - from your initial application for a Tier 4 (General) Student visa to study your first course at Exeter, to visas for working after your studies.

Immigration is changing all the time, it is therefore extremely important that students keep up-to-date with the newest regulations when applying for their visas and access the free specialist immigration advice that we offer.

Immigration advice

The University of Exeter offers a wide selection of university accommodation, on and off campus, to suit all tastes and budgets.

Accommodation is guaranteed for:

  • new, unaccompanied undergraduates
  • international postgraduates
  • one year Erasmus/Study Abroad students

as long as applications are received by the deadline of 31st July.

When you apply for accommodation, please note, you do NOT have to hold an Unconditional offer to submit your application: as long as your response is Firm, you will still be able to apply, even if your offer from the University of Exeter is Conditional. However, a room will not be allocated to you until all the conditions of your offer have been met.

Undergraduate students have a choice of catered or self-catered accommodation. There is a broad range of options: twin rooms, single studio bedrooms with bathroom and kitchen attached, and more. Postgraduate, Study Abroad and Erasmus students can only apply for self-catered accommodation.

For full details of the options available, as well as prices, facilities and 360-degree virtual tours of some of the rooms, visit our accommodation pages.

Students who would like to rent private, rather than University-run, accommodation can use the Accommodation Office's online database of privately rented accommodation. Visit the "Private Housing" section of the accommodation pages for details.

Our local representatives

The University of Exeter has agreements with the following independent representatives in your country, who would be pleased to tell you more about the University's facilities and programmes.  They can also assist you in making an application. Most of our representatives offer their services to applicants for free.  Those that do charge a fee must make this clear from the outset of their consultation with students and issue appropriate receipts.  If you have any concerns about whether an agent is an authorised representative of the University of Exeter, please contact us. We also welcome feedback on the services offered by our local representatives.
