National Science and Engineering Week is a co-operative venture across the University with the Outreach Team recruiting participants for activities provided by the science departments on our three campuses.Information for teachers
The UK Student Recruitment Office has developed a wide range of activities with schools and colleges locally, regionally and nationally. We have staff based both in Exeter and at our Cornwall Campus at Penryn, near Falmouth.
Our Outreach team offers activities and programmes focusing on raising awareness of HE, widening participation, student recruitment and community engagement. Our aim is to build relationships with schools and colleges, to help students understand the progression process, and to raise awareness of the opportunities offered through higher education in general and at the University of Exeter in particular.
What we do
Our outreach activities are aimed at potential local and regional university entrants through our relationships with schools and colleges and include information and advice, subject specific activities and residential opportunities. Our aim is to build links with schools and colleges in the South West to encourage general progression to HE, and specifically to Exeter for suitably qualified applicants.
Fair Access
The University is committed to attracting and retaining the best students irrespective of their educational or social background. As part of this commitment, our Admissions Policy seeks to recognise where a student’s educational background may have had an impact on their attainment, and to ensure that our processes support Fair Access to our degree programmes for students with the greatest potential. The average performance of the school/college, defined by a range of measures, may be taken into consideration as part of the holistic assessment of an application, which will also include the student’s actual and predicted grades, personal statement and reference.
Widening participation
Our widening participation (WP) activities are focused programmes of activity intended to improve awareness, raise aspirations and support progression to higher education among under-represented groups in local and regional schools and colleges. We seek to build long-term relationships with schools that will support students through all stages of their education. If you are an Access to HE tutor please visit our Mature student pages.
Community engagement
Our community engagement activity is particularly focused on the cities of Exeter and Tremough through a range of programmes involving other partners throughout the education community. The Excellence in Exeter Awards is an annual celebratory evening held in November to recognise exceptional young people in Exeter. A similar awards ceremony, Excellence in Cornwall, is run at Truro.
