Iain Park

Director of Grounds

Iain joined the University of Exeter as the Director of Grounds in September 2007. He is responsible for maintaining the grounds extending to a total of 153 hectares.  The gardens cover 100 hectares over the two campuses with the Streatham Campus being registered as a Botanic Garden.  The remaining grounds include excellent sporting facilities in various locations in Exeter.

He graduated from Strathclyde University with a BSc Hons in Horticulture and has a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Studies from Napier University.  He previously worked in Edinburgh as the Parks Manager for the City, managing 1600 hectares of public open space in the Scottish capital.

David Evans

Grounds Operations Manager

David joined the University on July 1st 2013 and is responsible for directly line managing the Grounds Managers.  His role also includes ensuring resources are adequately managed, finding ways of driving efficiency and increasing standards and ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and sustainability targets.    

David originally worked in agriculture - he has also worked in sales and customer service management.  Prior to starting at the University he worked as a head groundsman on a military establishment for 12 years.

He studied for a First Diploma in Land-Based Industries and a National Diploma in Agriculture at Reaseheath College in Cheshire.  He gained a Higher National Diploma in Agriculture from Seale Hayne College in Newton Abbot and an RHS General, Advanced Certificate and Diploma at Bicton College.  He has also been awarded a Foundation Degree in Horticultural Science from Bicton College.

Sam Primrose

Grounds Manager - Central Estate, Spreytonway and Nursery

Sam joined the Grounds Team in November 2013;  her overall responsibility is for the grounds on Central Estate and Spreytonway on Streatham campus including the ponds, nursery, floristry, floral decorations for graduation and interior plants. Sam manages a team of 15 and her role also involves liaising with building contractors, customers, visitors, staff, students, volunteers and college managers.

Sam studied at Bicton College and was awarded a Foundation Degree in Horticultural Science. While studying at College she also worked as a part time Craft Gardener there. Before returning to Devon, Sam was a Horticultural Supervisor for a London based gardening company. She recently gained an IOSH Qualification.

Sam was instrumental in gaining the Grounds Team’s Green Impact Silver award for Streatham Campus in 2015 and is currently working on the International Garden, a major new project to celebrate the University’s Diamond Jubilee.

Assistant Grounds Manager - Central Estate, Spreytonway and Nursery

Assistant Grounds Manager for the Central Estate, Spreytonway and Nursery Team.  Peter has worked for the University for 35 years and in this time has worked across all of the Streatham Grounds Teams.  Peter has been an Assistant Grounds Manager since 1986.  In the early 1980s, Peter started carrying out arboricultural work and this is something that he has enjoyed doing ever since - he still climbs trees and is one of our most experienced arborists.

Andy Roke

Grounds Manager - Outer Areas, St Luke's and Sports

In 2015 Andy will be celebrating 36 years service working on the grounds of Exeter University.  Starting in 1979 at the Spreytonway area and then moving to the Central Estate to become the youngest Deputy Foreman at 24 years in 1985.

During the 1980s Andy also attended various courses at Bicton College concluding with a final three year course and horticulture qualifications.

Andy became the Grounds Foreman, now Manager, of the Outer Areas in 1995. In 2015 he took on the additional responsibility of managing the St Luke's and Sports Teams.

After a few changes over the years the outer grounds areas now consist of West Garth, Duryard, Moberly, Birks, King Edward Street properties, Streatham Lodge, Mardon, Holland Hall, Clydesdale plus Nash Grove and we also have responsibility for the Vice Chancellor's home residence Redcot - see full list below

Assistant Grounds Manager for the Outer Areas and St Luke's Team.  Areas covered include:  St Luke's, West Garth, Duryard, Moberly, Birks, King Edward Street properties, Streatham Lodge, Mardon, Holland Hall, Clydesdale plus Nash Grove and we also have responsibility for the Vice Chancellor's home residence Redcot - see full list below.

Originally from a mechanical/building background Terry started as an apprentice on the central estate in March 1984.  He trained in all aspects of estate work and following the great storms in 1987 was trained in all aspects of arboriculture at Bicton College.  

He progressed to a Deputy Foreman role in the Outer Areas Team in 2004, then in 2009 moved to the Spreytonway Team which he led through significant development of student accommodation in the Lafrowda area and the new Business School. In April 2016, he moved to the Outer Areas and St Lukes' Team. 

He has undertaken various courses and management training courses, to keep his skills and knowledge of arboriculture and horticulture to the highest industry standards.

Terry is pleased to play his part in an award winning Grounds Team that strives to deliver quality services.

Mark Farrant

Assistant Grounds Manager - Sports

Assistant Grounds Manager for the Sports Team.  Mark has worked for the Grounds Team for 25 years and works mostly at Duckes Sports Ground down by the banks of the Exe.  His role involves all aspects of maintaining the pitches and ensuring that events at Duckes run smoothly.

Grounds Administrator and PA to the Director of Grounds.  Based at Streatham Farm.

Vikki joined the University in 1993 as the PA to the Assistant Director of Domestic Services (now Campus Services).  During her time at the University she has worked within a variety of PA, secretarial and administrative roles within Campus Services departments - Director's Office, Training, Parking, Transport and now Grounds.

Vikki has been the Administrator for the Grounds Team and the PA to the Director of Grounds since 2010 and is responsible for everything admin!
