We can support you if your Mental Health affects or interrupts your studies.

Mental health advice and support

Impact on your studies

If you are really struggling with your studies we can help you by exploring the options open to you and supporting you to decide on the best course of action.

This might include gaining information to help inform your decision, for example your College's perspective on your academic situation and the Students Guild for your financial situation. We can also help to coordinate joint meetings with relevant university departments.

This may be under the University's Fitness to Study procedure and/ or the Fitness to Practice procedure.

Options available may include:

  • Deferring some or all exams
  • Renegotiating deadlines
  • Health related breaks such as: interruption, repeating a year or part-time study
  • Changing courses
  • Recommendations to access ongoing support from university and/or outside agencies

Interrupting your studies

If you decide to interrupt your studies on health grounds the Wellbeing Services team may be able to support you in the following ways:

  • planning for your time away from university, and exploring appropriate options of support.
  • remaining in contact during your period of interruption, with a focus on supporting and working towards your return to university.
  • facilitating and supporting your return to study on both a practical and emotional level. e.g. liaison with academic school, accommodation, implementation of reasonable adjustments, setting up a support network.
