Mental health advice and support
Our staff
Mental health advice and support is offered by skilled professionals in Wellbeing Services with extensive experience of advising students with mental health difficulties. Students with complex mental health needs are supported in a variety of ways. This includes one-to-one support and liaison with academic staff as well as external mental health professionals.
All team members have a specific professional training such as Occupational Therapy, Counselling, Social Work or Nursing and many have completed additional training in mental health psychosocial interventions.
Mental Health Mentors provide specialist mentoring and on-going support for students. [please see our separate mental health mentoring leaflet]. The mentors may also run workshops for students such as managing exam stress.
All staff offering mental health advice and support have a responsibility to maintain their continual professional development requirements, their professional registration, to receive clinical supervision, and maintain links with appropriate organisations and information e.g. The Universities Mental Health Advisors Network, The National Mental Health Development Unit.
