We offer a range of sustainable travel incentives for staff.
We have developed a modern and progressive pay structure that rewards our staff with highly competitive salaries (see Salary scales). Common salary principles across the University include:
- Transparency and fairness
- Equal pay for equal value
- Opportunities for career progression
- The potential for employees to earn more for exceptional performance.
The University offers pensions schemes linked to salary to all new staff. The Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) and the Exeter Retirement Benefits Scheme (ERBS) provide excellent comparable benefits on retirement or leaving. The employee and the University make percentage contributions to the schemes and rates may vary from time to time. The employee contribution rates are currently 6.5% for USS members and 6.25% for ERBS scheme members. Visit our pensions website.
Travel to work incentives
As part of our Sustainable Travel Plan, to encourage alternatives to travelling to work by car, the University has a number of initiatives aimed at encouraging sustainable travel and money saving for staff, including:
- car sharing
- cycle to work scheme
- car lease scheme
- annual rail season tickets interest-free loan
- discounted Stagecoach bus passes
- car parking, including accessible spaces for Blue Badge Holders and dedicated car sharing spaces
As part of our range of family friendly initiatives, we enable staff to purchase, via a salary sacrifice arrangement approved by HM Revenue & Customs, childcare vouchers without paying income tax or national insurance contributions on this sum. Visit our childcare voucher and childcare facilities pages.
Our Staff Association offers staff discounts and offers at a huge variety of companies both locally and nationally, including food outlets both on University campuses, local bars, cafes and restaurants and national chain restaurants, and even supermarket shopping, including fuel. Find out more about the Staff Association.
Free eye tests
All staff who use display screen equipment are entitled to eye tests paid for by the University, provided they apply under the University scheme (via Occupational Health) before booking an appointment.
