Sustainability
Construction and Refurbishment
- In 2014, a wide range of refurbishment projects were completed across the University estate, with a notable example being the Knightley building. This building is home to the Strategic Security Institute and is an exemplar refurbishment which incorporated a range of sustainability enhancements, while still retaining the buildings Edwardian splendour. Sustainability elements included loft space insulation, new energy efficient LED lighting, lighting controls, inclusion of exit and entry points in the roof for the existing bat populations, new recycling bins and new cycle parking facilities. The project has reduced the annual gas consumption of the building by around 25% and realised an annual saving of around 4 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
