Engagement

  • The Green Impact project continues to support environmental improvements. In 2013/14, thirty seven teams took part, with three teams achieving the Platinum Award and eleven obtaining a Gold Award. Six teams who had achieved Platinum Awards in previous years also took part in Green Impact Excellence, which allowed them to create and manage their own sustainability-enhancing projects.

  • The Students’ Green Unit was launched in September 2013 to directly support student-led projects to create change in Sustainability across the University. In 2013/14 the Green Unit supported 16 different projects, which included making the University’s Carbon Management Plan more accessible, raising awareness of wasting water and introducing re-usable bottles and bags for sale on campus. In May 2014, the Students’ Green Unit were awarded the International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN) Excellence Award for Student Leadership.

  • A range of engaging events were held on campus to celebrate Go Green Week in February 2014. These included a Walkers Breakfast, Dr Bike cycle safety events, a Pre-Loved Bike Sale, a mini Student Re-Use event and information stalls on how to get involved with sustainability at the University.

  • Fairtrade Fortnight was also celebrated on campus in March 2014, with a Fairtrade craft fair, a talk from a Fairtrade farmer and promotions on Fairtrade goods to raise awareness of the movement.
