Annual Report 2014/15
We have made excellent progress in improving the environmental performance of the University during 2014/15.
We have continued to reduce our carbon dioxide emissions, divert waste from landfill and take practical steps to enhance biodiversity on our campuses.
We have demonstrated our commitment to sustainable travel through our increased investment in the D and H bus services, cycling facilities and initiatives.
We continue to be recognised externally through our recertification to the ISO14001 International Standard for Environmental Management Systems and by recognition in national awards such as Green Flag, Green Gown, NUS National Excellence Awards and the Footprint Awards.
We continue to support staff, students and tenants to create positive change locally. Green Impact led to the completion of 1,399 ‘greening’ actions and provided opportunities for 20 students to gain practical skills in auditing.
Our Green Consultants programme has grown and has provided practical opportunities to use our campus as a living laboratory, as well as enhance the employability of those students who participated.
2014/15 represents the final year of our Environmental Sustainability Strategy and I look forward to the publication of our new objectives, targets and plans.
Jacqui Marshall, Deputy Registrar and Director of HR.
