Support for postgraduate research students

As Head of Researcher Development, Rachel and her team play a crucial role in ensuring postgraduate researchers (PGRs) and early career research staff are equipped with the necessary skills for their studies and later careers.

Employability and Graduate Development offer courses for postgraduate research students to develop their research skills. As Rachel explains: “Our programmes include courses that span a range of different areas relating to developing our young researchers. We use a tool which is called the Researcher Development Framework…which enables us to map our courses… so that we can provide training that not only helps researchers think about the skills they need… but also to consider where the gaps are in terms of future development with regard to where they want their career to go.”

Celebrating Research in Cornwall

EGD also offers postgraduate students the opportunity to present their research at the Celebrating Research in Cornwall conference. The event brings together Penryn and Truro researchers from all disciplines to develop their skills in discussing and presenting their research, "in an intellectually stimulating environment.”

Aim 3: Research-inspired, inquiry-led learning
To extend the opportunities for students to learn in innovative ways through their own research and inquiry

Support for Postgraduate Research Students

“...we provide...[PGRs] with the tools that will enable them to be better researchers".

Value of leading researchers

"...as a leading research University… we need to have leading research being conducted at all levels”.

Celebrating Research in Cornwall

“...it’s a great opportunity for postgraduate researchers... to get experience of actually presenting at conferences”.
