Alice Biggar (Law 2009)

Exeter graduate wins the ‘nicest job in Britain’

In October, after two months of gruelling campaigning, a public vote and a fundraising challenge which saw her and her fellow finalists raise more than £13,000 in just 10 days, Exeter graduate Alice Biggar, was offered the position of ‘Nicest Job in Britain’!

The ‘Nicest Job in Britain’ is a national competition to find the nation’s philanthropy manager, or Britain’s ‘charity champion’. It involves travelling around Britain and working with 40 charities in just one year. The ‘Nicest Job in Britain’ is all about celebrating the good things that go on across our country every day through video, and marketing communications and positive media engagement.

Alice was helped to victory through her blog, Challenge Alice, a platform for personal challenge and social exploration which began last year with the idea of living on £1 a day for a month (http://bit.ly/thetelegraph1pound). This led to hitchhiking across Europe, performing stand-up comedy, befriending a stranger each day, taking bronze in an old banger rally and running a marathon.

Alice said: “In this year I aim to find out just what it is about these 40 great causes that makes people volunteer their time, step outside their comfort zones and donate their money rather than spend it on themselves.

“There will be a lot of surprises in store - I will be working with charities from a wide range of spaces from RSPCA to Gloucestershire Pride to Sport 4 Life to Toybox and the Samaritans.

“It has been a tough few months to get here with blood, sweat and tears but I can’t wait to begin this new adventure and it would be great if I could work with you along the way!”

You can follow Alice throughout the year on the ‘Nicest Job in Britain’ blog.
