Tom Glover has been named as a NextGen Leader

Exeter alumnus named sporting leader

Tom Glover (Economics, 2011 and MSc International Management, 2012) is one of just 30 professionals from across the UK sports industry to be selected as a Sports Industry NextGen Leader for 2019.

The Sport Industry NextGen programme is aimed at industry professionals aged 30 and younger. It is designed to better equip emerging talent for leadership roles within sport – and in turn to ensure the industry itself is fit to face the challenges of the future at a time of rapid change.

Tom started his career doing strategy consulting at Deloitte for three years. He then fulfilled his desire to work in sports, moving to City Football Group (Manchester City, New York and Melbourne football clubs) to lead a commercial partnerships strategy team. Here he was involved in major deals including Etihad, SAP, Nexen and Amazon and wrote sponsorship strategies for various football clubs. Last year he joined Amazon to launch their sports ticketing platform, writing their strategy and negotiating deals with several major UK rightsholders, and since May he has led Wasserman’s multi-disciplinary project with Discovery to create a revolutionary global, digital home for golf fans worth over $2 billion.

“It feels great to win a place on the scheme as it's an opportunity to develop myself further through the package offered and to meet and learn from a group of smart people in similar positions. I have managed to work for four companies that all do very different things but that are all at the forefront of their industries,” Tom said.

“CFG and Amazon are both disrupting the sports landscape successfully, and the project I'm leading at Wasserman will be the comprehensive single-sport OTT platform ever made. My roles have varied, but my current one with GOLFTV is particularly great as it involves leading teams across US, UK and Australia to help launch this $2bn+ platform in just seven months.”

As a 2019 NextGen Leader, Tom will benefit from a year-long Leadership Package which includes training, personal development and networking opportunities, in addition to the powerful, lifelong network the Leaders form together.
