The KeepCups come in a variety of colours to choose from.

Reusable KeepCup Campaign supported by the Alumni Annual Fund wins Campaign of the Year at the Guild Awards

The student-led Give Up Your Paper Cup campaign has won the award for Campaign of the Year at the Guild Awards, for encouraging students and staff to use a re-usable KeepCup when buying hot drinks. This scheme, backed by the Alumni Annual Fund, has saved the use of over 25,000 disposable cups in just its first term and directly led to the university’s decision to go ‘plastic-free’ by 2020.

At this year’s Guild Awards Give Up Your Paper Cup won the Campaign of the Year Award for their highly successful KeepCup. The project began in Fresher’s Week 2017 and the first 1000 cups were given away for free, thanks to a donation from the Alumni Annual Fund, getting the ball rolling for a reusable cup which is now widespread on campus.

With a 5% discount at campus outlets and 10% at Student Guild outlets when using a reusable cup, the percentage of hot drinks served in disposable cups has dropped by 27%, with more promotional events planned next term.

The cups come in a variety of colours and styles and are available in multiple on-campus retailers.

However, the success hasn’t just stopped at their award. This campaign has encouraged the University to begin its own initiative and crack down on all disposable plastics onsite. It hopes to run it alongside these highly popular cups which have now saved 46,000 coffee cups from being used in just seven months.
