Volunteer in the Spotlight: Loukas Sarakinos (MSc International Management 2004)

This month is the turn of Loukas Sarakinos (MSc International Management 2004),currently working as Attorney at Law (Partner) at Nikolaos & Loukas Sarakinos Law Office in Athens, Greece. Loukas volunteers as Country Contact for Athens, Greece where he acts as a point of contact for our local alumni network, as well as current and prospective students, or visiting staff.

We asked Loukas a few questions about his experience at Exeter, career and experiences as a volunteer.

• Tell us about your career journey since graduation from the University of Exeter.

"After graduating from the University of Exeter, I passed the exams in the Athens Association Bar and started working as an Attorney at law. I worked as an associate in several insurance companies and a major bank institution in Greece. For almost 3 years I worked in the Tax & Legal Department in one of the so called Big-4 firms and since 2011 I am Partner in “Nikolaos & Loukas Sarakinos Law Office” with specialization in private insurance law and penal law."

• What are your best memories from living and studying at Exeter?

"Probably the best year in my life! I had the opportunity to combine top level standard of education and amazing student life in one of UK’s most beautiful campus. Besides that, I met students from various countries, who became friends for a lifetime."

• What inspired you to volunteer your time to help the University of Exeter?

"It was the least I could do in order to give something back to the University that gave me so many wonderful memories."

• What do you enjoy most about your volunteering role?

"What I enjoy the most is the contact with alumni, as well as with stuff of the University. It makes me feel like I’m an active student! Moreover, I really enjoy meeting prospective students of the University, sharing my experiences with them and giving them answers to their multiple questions before coming to UK."

• What advice would you give to other alumni interested in volunteering?

"Stop thinking about it and make it happen! You have the chance to meet other alumni, keep contact with your friends from the University years and help prospective students before starting their magical journey in Exeter."
