Weekend ‘Business Brunch’ launched in Hong Kong

Volunteers of the Exeter Hong Kong Alumni Group (EHKAG) identified the need for in-depth employability and networking for recent graduates in Hong Kong. In response to the need to support the careers of young Exeter alumni, the network group organised the first Business Brunch event, which took place on a Saturday morning in March 2019 in Central, Hong Kong.

A group of recent Exeter alumni who are in the early stages of their careers joined three alumni who shared insights into their successful careers:

-          Sue Kendall (Geography, 1980), Partner at Baker & McKenzie

-          Andrew Gordon (Economics and Politics, 1982), Managing Director - Investor & Treasury Service at Royal Bank of Canada

-          Mike Mathias (Economics & Politics, 1982), Partner at EY

Maybelle Chan (International Relations 2016) attended the brunch: “I thought this type of brunch/lunch events are brilliant ideas as they provide room for discussion and personal connections. Thank you very much for organising. Look forward to attending the next one.”

Lucas Honscha Garcia (MSc Financial Analysis and Fund Management 2016) also joined:“Lunch was great, felt like having lunch with friends. It was a good experience to hear the career stories from such senior people, which were willing to share so much.”

This event helps fulfil the EHKAG’s objective of helping to inspire graduate careers, provide employability and networking opportunities.

Hong Kong has the fourth largest population of Exeter alumni outside of the UK, with over 1800 alumni. Thanks to the support of alumni volunteers in Hong Kong, the engagement of other alumni, students and potential students in Hong Kong increase year-after-year.
