Volunteer in the Spotlight: Ronnie Henderson (Ancient History, 2014)

We caught up with alumnus Ronnie Henderson (Ancient History, 2014), who talked to us about why he volunteers for Exeter.

What do you do and where do you work?

I am a Police Officer working for the Metropolitan Police in central London.

How long have you been volunteering for the University of Exeter?

I have been volunteering for the University as part of Exetra since 2015.

What does your role involve?

As Chair of Exetra, my role is to lead a committee of volunteers in delivering a range of events for recent alumni from the university. We run both social and networking events - the committee are involved in everything from finding a venue to advertising the event.

What inspires you to volunteer your time?

I had a wonderful time when I was a student at Exeter - I always felt a sense of pride in being part of the university.  I am passionate in carrying on that sense of belonging and shared experience with our alumni, and I hope our events can do just that. It is always brilliant to see our members catching up with old friends and making new ones at our events!

What do you enjoy most about volunteering?

It has to be the people - I have had the pleasure of getting to know a variety of alumni and staff of the university through my volunteering. I am always impressed with the dedication that everyone shows to the university and its community.
