Exeter rising star of internationally excellent research

Thanks to research tackling issues as diverse as gender discrimination, endangered sea turtles, malaria diagnosis and low carbon building design, Exeter has been ranked 16th nationally in the Research Excellence Framework (REF2014). 98% of our research is of international quality, up from 82% in the last evaluation in 2008. Five exceptional Exeter alumni have been recognised in the Queen’s New Year Honours list 2015.

Tracing footsteps in the Arctic

Alumni Oli Luscombe (International Relations 2010) and Ed Cooper (Economics and Politics 2009) are part of an expedition team retracing the route of British explorer David Haig-Thomas across the Arctic.

Prize draw winner

18 student projects greenlit thanks to alumni and supporters

Almost £66,000 donated by alumni and supporters so far this year will fund a range of projects across the University. Thanks to the generosity of alumni and supporters, 18 projects received funding during the first half of the year through the Telethon and online donations. To learn more please visit our website.

Join the club

Made up of alumni and staff, The Exeter University Club (EUC) offers a range of events and activities for members and their families through its 6 branches across the UK. Members catch up at regular branch events and come together at their annual outing weekend (this year planned for 20 - 21 June in the Chilterns. The club also supports the University in many ways including the annual Paddon Award competition, the annual Andrew Stratton Lecture and financing sports student scholarships. Wolfson Foundation donates £2m towards future of science at Exeter

The gift was the largest award made by The Wolfson Foundation in 2014 and will be used to support the establishment of a new Living Systems Institute, which will pioneer a new approach to treating the world’s most serious diseases.

Exeter ranked amongst 100 most international universities in the world

The University ranked 62 in the latest Times Higher Education league table of the global 100 most international universities. The latest table shows a rise of nine places, from 71st position in 2014.

New study will examine environmental antibiotic resistance

A new £1.2million grant from the Natural Environment Research Council is set to boost our understanding of how pollution can promote antibiotic resistance.

We are pleased to share with you our latest Thank You report, which provides an insight into the varied and transformational support Exeter receives from our alumni and supporters. In the last year our alumni and friends donated more than £3,000,000 to support projects and initiatives, and more than 800 alumni volunteered to help Exeter students, donating over 9,000 hours of their time.

In recognition of the contribution of Exeter’s many supporters, our Roll of Honour contains the names of everyone who has made a gift or given their time and expertise to the University between 1 August 2013 and 31 July 2014. Exeter receives large legacy

The University of Exeter has received one of its biggest ever legacy donations. The £881,000 donation from Devon resident Carlotta Palmer will go to scholarships in postgraduate studies and research.

'Meet your Mentor' event a huge success

More than 100 mentors and mentees packed Devonshire House’s Terrace restaurant to kick-off this academic year’s Career Mentoring Scheme. The event was a great success with 51 volunteers travelling from all over the UK in order to meet their mentees and other mentors.

Exeter Entrepreneurs - advice and encouragement

"Be passionate about what you do, because if you are not, then when the first hurdle comes up, you will give up. Annual Rugby Varsity Match

The Annual Rugby Varsity Match against Bath University will take place on Wednesday 18 February, 19:45 kick off. Tickets are available on the night at the door or from the Sports Park reception at £10 per ticket. Each ticket includes transport to and from Sandy Park Stadium from the Streatham Campus and raffle entry for a chance to win two Exeter Chiefs tickets.  Proceeds will be donated to Cardiac Risk in the Young. Swell on their way  

The Sailing Club would like to express its special thanks for alumni support that has allowed them to purchase three brand new fireflies - valuable additions to the club. The new boats will allow the club to take three full teams to train competitively regularly, in preparation for the BUSA Team Racing Championship Playoffs in February, and have allowed the club to expand The Exeter Excalibur, inviting twenty-one other university teams to join them on 21-22 March for a weekend of competitive racing where they compete for the Richard Ward Trophy.

4th in BUCS!

Going into Term Two we are placed in a strong 4th position in the overall BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport, formally BUSA & UAU)  rankings, with an exciting term of fixtures ahead. The highest point scoring sports at present are Hockey (246), Tennis (214) and Rugby Union (177) with both Hockey and Rugby in first position out of 154 institutions, and Tennis a close second.

Global Lecture Series Launch in Hong Kong

March sees the launch of Exeter’s new series of global lectures, a programme of public lectures taking place around the globe, hosted by Exeter's pioneering academics. The first events take place in Hong Kong and will feature talks delivered by Exeter's world-leading academics on the themes of “Transforming Mental Healthcare Services in Hong Kong” on Friday 20 March and “Water in Asia: Threats and Opportunities for Health and Wellbeing” on Monday 23 March.

Alumni events in China

Alumni networking evenings will be taking place in Beijing and Shanghai in March. Join fellow Exeter alumni and staff for drinks and canapés at the luxurious British Ambassador's Residence in Beijing on Wednesday 25 March. Are you based in Shanghai? Then join us for an alumni event on Friday 27 March and enjoy fantastic views from the 93rd floor of the Park Hyatt in the Shanghai World Financial Centre building and to hear from Professor Robin Mason, Dean of the Business School.
