Women in the Law Event

When approached by Exeter alumna Jane Player, a Partner in King and Spalding’s Disputes Group, about organising a Women in the Law panel event, the Employability Team in the College of Social Sciences and International Studies jumped at the opportunity to bring in an all-female panel of graduates from a variety of law backgrounds to speak and provide inspiration to our current students.

Chaired by Deborah Cochrane, Visiting Lecturer, the panel of five alumnae began by introducing themselves and explaining their career paths from their law degree at Exeter to their current positions. An interactive Q&A session explored further themes such as the opportunities for progression to Partner in a law firm, the variety of in-house and specialist law recruitment roles available and the panellists gave tips and advice to current students on having a successful and fulfilling law career. There was an in-depth discussion of all themes due to the wide range of experiences that each panellist has had throughout their careers.

The talk was followed by an hour-long networking session where students were able to benefit from the opportunity to directly ask questions to our panellists as well as network with their peers across year groups and disciplines.

We would like to thank the panellists for joining us and volunteering their time for this event which students commented was a “refreshing change” from the usual employer presentations.
