Case Study: Situations

Performed across three long weekends in September 2017, The Tale was a journey of discovery across the coast of Torbay, inspired by the writing of acclaimed author Philip Hoare, who spent many childhood holidays there. Audiences uncovered site-specific art works across three towns in South Devon, navigating the journey with just a handy guide. Produced by Bristol-based public arts specialists Situations, The Tale featured nine new works created by leading international artists, often in collaboration with local people.

With her research specialism in audiences and outdoor performance, Dr Evelyn O’Malley provided Situations with an in-depth evaluation of the project and its outcomes, which are fundamental to the reporting requirement of public funding bodies such as the Arts Council, as well as for internal organisational review.
